Why clay lawns get packed down
Most yards in Collin County sit on heavy blackland clay. Over a few seasons of mowing, foot traffic and summer heat it packs down hard. Water from the sprinklers runs off instead of soaking in, roots stay shallow, and the lawn browns out faster in July.
Aeration opens up the soil so water, air and nutrients can reach the roots again. It’s one of the simplest things you can do for a lawn that never seems to hold water.
Good timing
The best results come when the grass is actively growing, so it can fill back in. For Bermuda, St. Augustine and Zoysia that means late spring into early summer. If you’re already on a regular mowing schedule with us, we can fit aeration into one of those visits.

Questions we get
When should a lawn be aerated in North Texas?
For the warm-season grasses most yards here have, Bermuda, St. Augustine and Zoysia, late spring into early summer is the best time, when the grass is growing hard and fills the holes back in quickly. Avoid aerating while the lawn is dormant in winter.
How often does a lawn need aeration?
Most lawns do well with once a year. Heavy clay, a yard that gets a lot of foot traffic, or one where water puddles or runs off can benefit from it more often.
Do I need to water before you come?
A lawn that was watered a day or two before is easier to aerate than bone-dry clay. We'll let you know when we schedule the visit.
